Very true. It offers a comprehensive lifestyle approach. Have you found the comprehensive lifestyle approach of the diet to be helpful?

How would you differentiate the Mediterranean diet from the specific carbohydrate diet?

In some ways the specific carbohydrate diet is similar to a modified Mediterranean diet. Both eating plans emphasize eating whole plant foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, beans and extra virgin olive oil. The specific carbohydrate diet totally eliminates grains and most processed foods and includes moderate amounts of meat. The Mediterranean diet includes whole grains, moderate amounts of fish, poultry and eggs and infrequent use of red meat such as beef or pork; it relies primarily on whole foods instead of processed foods. If you click on the following link, and then go to the Mediterranean diet pyramid tab, you will see the Mediterranean diet looks very similar to the specific carbohydrate diet. For optimal health, many people on both diets would benefit from eating more vegetables, beans, herbs and spices.
